The general principle is a laser is used to burn off some material from the cornea to reshape the eye & correct for a natural misshape of the eye.

There r three procedures, LASIK, PRK, & LASEK. The difference is how the eye is prepared. In all cases, some numbing drops r put in, & an outer portion of the eye is removed. Then the flap is replaced in LASIK, or the outer layer is replaced in LASEK, or a temporary protective contact lens is put on in PRK & the procedure is done. Over time the eye heals. You go back & see the doctor for a check up in a week or two (where the contact is removed if u had PRK).
