Our eyes water at night - & that ''sleep'' in our eyes is just dried up residue.

Its you boogers basically, your tear ducts are connected to your sinuses. Sleep seals you tear ducts so they do not dry out while sleeping.

Probably just dried up fluid out of your eye! Probably the body getting rid of it like when you cry to clean your eye :)

Haha My Grandma used to call it Duck Meat lol

''Wipe the duck meat out ya eye''

It is actually sand and it is only there if the Sandman has been and left a little more than he normally does. He would usually only leave enough to get you to sleep and this is used up during the night - if he leaves a little too much then it does not all get used up and there is a little left over in the morning.

There may also be some left over if you do not get enough sleep and have not used it all up during the night.

Many years ago, some scientists said that evolution was a fact because the human body supposedly contained parts that did not do anything. For a long time it was thought that organs such as the tonsils & the appendix were useless “leftovers” of evolution. These parts were called vestigial (ve-STIJ-ee-al) organs. The word “vestigial” means a trace or a mark left by something, much like a footprint. It was thought that these “useless” organs were marks or “footprints” of evolution.

One of those organs was the plica (PLY-ka) semilunaris (sem-ee-LOO-ner-is), which is located around the eye. For many years, this organ was thought to have no function. But lo & behold, eventually it was discovered that this “useless” organ has an important function after all.

In fact, it is the “crusty” factory. It secretes a sticky mass that collects any foreign materials such as dust or pollen. All this trash is surrounded by the sticky **** so that it does not scratch the sensitive cornea in ur eye. Once the garbage is collected, the plica semilunaris “escorts” it out of the eye just like a security guard would escort noisy troublemakers out of a theater.
