l have been prescribed with glasses because l am long sighted however when l have them on reading things close is excellent and very clear but things from far away are blurry. this is no good because l am still at school and wearing them for reading text and then taking them off for reading the whiteboard is a pain. are they suppose to be like this?

Ideally, no. Your glasses should allow u to see at all distances, clearly & comfortably.

As a ''far-sighted'' or hyperopic person, without correction, muscles in ur eyes flex to make u see clearly. People who r not far sighted only do this when they look at things that r up close. That means that without correction, ur eyes had to work even harder up close, most likely causing u occasional strain after long periods of near work. These new glasses r doing some of that focusing for you, making near work very comfortable.

One of two things is happening:

Your eyes may not be letting go & they're still trying to do some of the focusing work when u look far away, but since this work is already being done by the glasses, this makes things blurry. If that is the case, if u really try to relax ur eyes, u could see clearly through them. If u can see clearly through the glasses, even for a moment, then u would know it is ur eyes that need to relax.

If you've never seen clearly through them & with effort can not relax ur eyes to see clearly through the glasses, they may be a little strong for you.

l would call the doctor that prescribed u the glasses. He or she may make a free appointment for u to make sure the glasses were made correctly. If the glasses r not the problem, the doctor will know specialized techniques & strategies to help u teach ur eyes to relax when looking at things in the distance.

go 2 the doctors.
Same with me.
They are reading glasses you are suppoesed to wear them to improve your eyesight my doctor said. But if u think they are uncomfy then go to to the doctor.

My girlfriend is long sighted & got glasses for the first time in August. She started off just wearing them occasionally - when she was reading. When she went back to college she wore her glasses most of the day because she got fed up with putting them on & taking them off so often. She has no trouble seeing distances with them, although she said to me just now that distances were a bit blurry when she put her glasses on each day but that went away in less than an hour - which is another reason she wore them all day. She does not get the distance blur anymore but has decided to continue to wear her glasses most of the day - Actually she has being wearing her glasses all day this week, before & after college as well as during college. She even wore them when we went to the pub with a couple of friends this evening.
Her advice is to practice looking at distant objects when wearing ur glasses & ur eyes should soon start to focus properly. You might even want to try wearing ur glasses all day to help speed up the ''training'' for ur eyes. Once u can see distances clearly with ur glasses on u can decide if u want to wear them all the time or just for reading. My girlfriend wears her glasses all the time because she says her eyes feel more relaxed when she is wearing her glasses. It is more of a preference than a need as she can see distances just as well without glasses as she can with them.
Her glasses prescription says ''L +1.75, R +2.25''. What does yours say?
