im 17 years old and for the past year l have been getting white flashes in my eyes that makes it hard to see out of the corner of my eye. sometimes its in the middle of my eye sometimes its in my perifial vision, it happens maybe 1-3 times a month. what is that???

it is a form of a migraine. sometimes it is around the outter edges of the vision and sometimes it looks like a flashy zigzag in the middle of the vision. For me, it lasts anywhere from 10 minutes to a half hour. Sometimes l get a headache afterwards and sometimes l don't. One thing is for sure though, l always feel exhausted after they go away.

have you been to a doctor? what is wrong with you? go to a doctor, your eyes are all you got 1 pair, take care of them?

Yep l agree with Izzy. That is exactly what u r describing. We call it an ophthalmic migraine because it occurs within the eyes & does not necessarily cause a headache. It usually starts with a zigzag or kaleidoscope of lights in the peripheral vision & works its way to the center vision & then back out again, causing difficulty seeing in the area affected. You may or may not get a full blown headache or a mild headache with it. You may also feel nauseated, & tired afterwards.
There r certain cheeses, processed meats & certain types of peanuts that can attribute to these as well as chocolate. If it continues to be a problem, seek medical advice. l will give u a little heads up. You can make an appt. with an ophthalmologist, but most will tell u there is nothing they can do for it.

Okay, if u r having a flash of light that sort of travels up the side of ur eye, or any flash of light, it can be that ur retina is getting ready to tear. You should go to the eye doctor TOMORROW & have them dilate ur eyes & see what is going on in there.
The flash means it is a possibility. If ur retina actually does detach, here is what u will see:
A gray curtain that slowly covers ur eye, an increased amount of floaters (the black dots & lines) in ur eyes.
If the retina detaches, there is a possibility of surgery fixing it, otherwise u will go blind in that eye.
If it is just starting to detach, they can inject a gas bubble that will hold ur retina in place.
l have had these signs for 13 years, & my retina has not detached, but l am under close supervision by my doctors, because that is the classic sign of it.
SO, do not freak out & think u r going to go blind tonight, but do realize that it is VERY IMPORTANT that u see the doctor tomorrow. If u tell them u r seeing flashes, they will book u an appointment for that day, make sure u talk to the doctor, not the receptionist.
